Island Living for an island nation
Scent is a powerful tool that can transport us to various times and places. Thoughts of the Bahamas came to mind when I got a chance to walk through Crabtree & Evelyn last week and discovered that India Hicks, granddaughter of Lord Louis Mountbatten and Goddaughter of The Prince of Wales has created and designed her Island Living Collection.
Inspired by her home on Harbour Island, this former model and mother-of-three had created a Sugar Mill boutique, to share with us the simple pleasures of island life with clean packaging and the fragrance of Orange Blossoms, Night-Blooming Jasmine and other soft aromas that gently blend with the sea air swirling from the ocean and across her veranda.
Spider lilies and other indigenous island plants are used, the overall scent is reminiscent of the sea air. I bought the room spray, Casuarina, and you really feel like you are right close to the ocean, it’s like a marine green feeling.
The signature scent of her bath-and-body collection is Spider Lily, her favourite indigenous blossom for which she also named the speedboat on which she explores the tropical coastline of a small island in the Bahamas.
Then I found out she had been in town this summer, but I guess I missed it, as I’d have thanked her for creating these light yet refreshing fragrances which can be enjoyed by both men and women alike. (That’s a hint for you guys looking for something special to buy your girl this Christmas.)
